Sub-Sight, the UK’s first truly focused online directory of construction sub-contracting companies has been relaunched this week, with a fantastic new look.

But the re-skin of the site is just the tip of the iceberg and belies the real magic of a website which has already connected many sub-contracters with vital business contacts at main contracting and development companies.

The concept is simple. You own, or are responsible for a sub-contracting business in one of twenty counties in the Midlands and South-East of England. Times in the UK construction industry are tough at the moment.

You need to make more business contacts at main contracting and development companies.

This is exactly what Sub-Sight will deliver for you.

Put simply, your company will appear as one of only twelve companies within the geographical area and construction sector you choose. (see below)

How does advertising on Sub-Sight gain you business?

The driving force behind Sub-Sight is not, as you might expect, an advertising agency but a company called Aspire Recruitment Group, one of the most successful specialist construction recruitment consultancies in the UK. Having been involved in the construction industry for around ten years, and having built some of the best relationships in the business, Aspire Recruitment’s consultants would often be asked by contacts at main contracting companies to recommend sub-contractors for local projects.

In Sub-Sight we have created a more structured way of enabling the two parties to come together. Sub-Sight is marketed heavily towards the companies who need companies like yours. It has been developed, with the help of main contractors, to be useful to main contractors. The simple navigation and search systems give accurate results and prevent you from unwanted contact from people wanting services you don’t provide.

Analytics

As a company advertising on Sub-Sight, we provide you with up-to-the-minute information on who is looking at your company home page, who has asked for your contact details, and who has clicked through to your website. You can also login to your own portal and find much more detailed information.

Partnerships – Glenigan

Our partnership with Glenigan, the largest provider of construction business intelligence in the UK, enables us to bring you the latest information on construction projects in your areas. We provide you with the information that you need to gain more business.

You can find out more about our partnership with Glenigan here.

What next?

Why not call us on 0845 678 5577 for an informal chat about advertising your business on Sub-Sight, or fill out this simple form and request a callback from one of our friendly team?

The Tesco superstore, constructed by RG Carter, will utilise Nano Gel roof lights, Wind Catchers, wind turbines, rainwater harvesting and solar-powered streetlights, as well as other ground-breaking technologies, but, better still, RG Carter have said that they will look at companies on Sub-Sight before chosing sub-contractors for the site.

For Sub-Sight to be considered as an option, for selecting local companies to complete sub-contract packages, on a landmark package such as this is a huge boost for all involved and will guarantee sub-contractors involved an easier path through this coming winter.

Aspire Recruitment Group and Sub-Sight managing director, Ashley Percival-Smith said on securing work on the project, “The project will involve technologies and techniques never before used and it would seem appropriate that the main contractors have chosen to use a groundbreaking service such as Sub-Sight in order to source the right local sub-contractors.”

Watch this space for more updates on this, and other projects, in the South-East of England.

One of Sub-Sight’s greatest strengths as an online supply chain mechanism is the partnership with the construction recruitment group and the shared relationships with thousands of principal contractor contacts, as well as larger sub-contractors, within the industry.

It’s well documented that certain companies, or more correctly, certain people, just work well together. After all, there’s nobody as reliable as somebody with whom you’ve worked alongside for years. They’ve delivered time and time again on site after site and have never let you down. At the very least if you have been let down you’ve put processes in place to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.

So, without doubt, when that kind of professional relationship is built between a contractor and a sub-contractor – and the same can be said to be true within any industry – it tends to last.

Now, just throw the small matter of a major economic downturn – one that very few people alive have seen the like of – into the mix. The pressure which this type of financial climate brings can be felt in many ways and the construction industry is, historically, one of the first to be hit by such a downturn.

Despite the calls by economists for us to spend our way out of the recession, and as people inevitably stop spending money, businesses are forced to cut costs. Plain and simple.

So, the completion of projects on or under budget is a major concern in these times. Costs are driven down at each stage of each project. Subbies feel the pinch. Some may go under. Some have. Those principal contractors which do not react quickly enough to the financial contraction may also suffer. Some may go under. Some have.

So what is the net result of all this? Many companies will survive this financial crisis. A number will not. And what happens to the business relationships enjoyed in the past when at least one of the parties no longer exists? It is as if it has never been. What happens to the fantastic camaraderie enjoyed on site when a contractor is forced to drop a subbie because of financial constraints placed upon them by the company which has just taken them over? It’s as if it never existed.

So the upshot is that principal contractors are being forced to find new sub-contractors. Building firms are being forced to take work outside their usual catchment areas. Subbies are having to find new contacts at main contractors in order to find work.

Networking within the building business – a normally important process within any industry – becomes vital to the survival of any company at times like these. This is where a concept such as Sub-Sight comes in.

Then why is this online directory different to any other and why can it really make a difference to the construction sector? The secret is really to be found within the organisation behind Sub-Sight, the Aspire Recruitment Group – one of the largest independent recruitment agencies in the south of England.

Having been recruiting for construction companies for around a decade, Aspire consultants are in contact with over a thousand contacts at principal contracting firms every week. Thus, the Sub-Sight concept is fuelled by some of the best relationships in any industry, not just in construction. As a trusted recruiting partner to many of the largest building and civil engineering firms in the UK, Aspire staff have been there to advise developers from outside the geographical area on local subbies on many occassions.

What Aspire have done in this instance is to put a more structured process behind this by launching an online construction supply chain mechanism at a time when the industry needs just such a networking tool. Sub-Sight aims to connect principal contractors with sub-contractors

If you represent a sub-contractor based in Beds, Bucks, Herts, Cambs, Northants, Oxfordshire or Warwickshire, and your company is not already on www.sub-sight.co.uk, then please click here to register your interest and find out more.

Alternatively, if you work for a principal contractor why not click here to register, for free, for your login to Sub-Sight.

Sub-Sight is the UK’s first truly focused online construction index for sub-contractors operating in and around Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.

The aim of Sub-Sight is to bridge the gap between principal contractors and sub-contractors and marry together companies which would, otherwise, never have had the opportunity to do business.

We aim to create a more structured way of introducing sub-contractors to main contractors and to offer the construction industry an alternative means of building business.
